Prepping Your Skin for Summer

We’ve talked about damage control and how to reverse effects of sun damage. But what we really want t focus on today is how to be proactive with your skin prep! We’re calling on all of our natural warriors to come to our skin’s defenses to create a solid foundation on preparedness when summer comes calling.

We’ll say it once and we’ll say it again – exfoliate! Let’s get your skin back to a smooth, lovely texture. Whether it’s been under the stress of cold weather and become dried out or if you’re fortunate enough to live in warmer climates, the sun may have already been sneaking into beautiful cells.

Use a natural exfoliator all over your face using gentle, circular motions twice a week to slough away those dead skin cells. Continue to exfoliate all summer long. It will come in handy to get rid of excess sunscreen after a day outside. Bonus! Regular exfoliation makes your skin more receptive to moisturizer!

Now we can protect from the outside but as you know, we can help fight UV rays from the inside – by making small changes to our diet. Head to the grocery store or farmer’s market and grab some delicious in-season tomatoes. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that helps fight the effects of UV rays such as redness, swelling, and blistering from sunburn. This obviously can’t replace sunscreen but it does add extra protection, just in case you miss a spot.

Last but certainly not least, is water! We preach about the good effects of staying hydrated and we won’t stop. Drinking at least 8 glasses a day of water will help keep your skin cells plump and hydrated while helping to fight dryness and redness. Carry around your water bottle like it’s your child and chug that crisp, cool water whenever you have the chance!
