Mariska’s Tips To Keep Glowing Through Fall•
Posted on September 12 2019
Today marks the beginning of my favorite season, Fall. I live in Austin, Texas so saying goodbye to the scorching days of summer and what I like to call the relentless fire ball in the sky is always welcomed. Powerful Sun, I am thankful for all your many blessings but it’s time for a break!
With Fall comes all the quintessential Fall agenda. Turning leaves, blustery days, boots and sweaters but also, perhaps, a change in your skincare routine. I thought I would take a moment to share a few of my transitions to keep my skin glowing as the weather and the season transitions.
Tip No. 1. Dry Brushing.
For me, dry brushing before my shower increases in the cooler months. I find my skin starts to get drier and creates that undesirable dull layer! No thank you! Dry brushing helps to exfoliate and remove, or at least loosen, that top layer of dead cells. It also helps to stimulate the lymphatic system which helps to detoxify the body. It's a two-fer! And its easy, start with your feet and your hands and brush towards your heart! I do about 10 or 12 long strokes per section. Then, once out of the shower, I apply the Body Oil to damp skin and breathe in the lovely, uplifting scent of bergamot and pink grapefruit to awaken my senses and nourish my skin. Then I’m left with a head to toe glow and velvety soft skin.
Tip No. 2. The Antioxidant Balm.
Never leave home without the Antioxidant Balm! It’s great to whip that baby out when your face is feeling a bit tight from the blustery cool wind, your cheeks need a little glow or your chapped lips need some extra hydration. I like to hydrate the backs of my hands and my cuticles with it as well. I find I am obsessive hand washing in the Fall avoiding lurking viruses and too much hand sanitizer.
Tip No. 3. Internal Olive Oil.
I think it’s clear how much I believe in hydrating and repairing your skin with olive oil externally, but taken internally it is a game changer as well. A spoon full of high quality olive oil a day can help moisturize your skin from the inside out with its Vitamin D and E content. It can also help to boost your immune response in the fall season. Not only does olive oil contain high levels of antioxidants which protect cells for free radical damage, but it is also anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, helping to ward off Fall bacterial infections and viruses.
Tip No. 4. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
Just because it’s time to say goodbye to sun kissed beaches doesn’t mean the sun won’t be out as you romp around in the Fall leaves! Make sure to slather it on faces and hands and anything else that’s exposed. The fire ball in the sky will still be there and the sun damage threat is just as great no matter the season.
I hope some of these tips will be useful as we transition in to the newness of fall. Fall reminds me that transition and letting go are an essential part of the process. I think Oscar Wilde said it most beautifully…"And all at once summer collapsed into fall."
